INTERESTED TO KNOW WHY ADVISING IS NECESSARY?

Story of Khaleda Begum the only daughter of day laborer, asset less parents is a good example of the acute need and benefit that agro advisory services can offer at grassroot level.

Khaleda, grew up under the lovely shadow of her parents, was married to a jobless young man of her own village at the minor age of 11. She carried two children when she could not even understand the meaning of a married life. From a state of complete mess, suddenly she discovered a cooperative society for women formed under Halwaghat Women's Programme, BRDB. She became a member there and with a loan of only BDT 1000, she started her paddy business. Gradually, over a period of 14 years she received advisory support (on beef fattening and milk-cow raring) as well as loan amounting to Tk. 68,000 for her dairy farm and a semi poultry farm. Now she has eight cows in her farm and gets 30 liters of milk a day. Besides, her mini-poultry farm of 20 ducks and 25 hens provides her with eggs that can be sold at market after meeting family need. Khaleda is happy now, more confident and resilient. She is now planning to expand her business in other areas of agricultural produce because she knows that she can seek advisory support in case she needs any.
